Rate Reduction Overview
The Public Services Regulatory Authority (Aresep) has approved a reduction in taxi fares. The newly adjusted rates will be effective from their official publication date in the official newspaper, La Gaceta.
Sedan Taxi Fare Changes
Currently, the first kilometer for sedan taxi services is priced at ¢935. However, with the implementation of the rate cut, it will now be ¢910, marking a reduction of ¢25, or 2.67%.
The rate for the second kilometer will also undergo the same reduction, transitioning from ¢935 to ¢910. Additionally, the waiting rate will drop from ¢3,555 to ¢3,450, a decrease of ¢105, or 2.95%.
Special Taxi Services for the Disabled
Aresep has also endorsed a fare reduction for taxi services specifically for people with disabilities. The rate for both the first and second kilometers will decrease from ¢845 to ¢820. Moreover, the waiting rate in this category will drop from ¢3,815 to ¢3,700.
Rural Taxi Fare Updates
Rural taxi services will also benefit from a rate reduction. The price for the first and subsequent kilometers will see a decrease from ¢1,040 to ¢1,010, and the waiting charge will be reduced from ¢3,985 to 3,785.
Rate Negotiations
Aresep has also clarified that drivers and users can negotiate prices for trips as long as the agreed-upon rates are lower than the aforementioned official rates.
Additional Notes: Aresep is considering incorporating the age of taxis in future rate calculations and will provide taxi users with an app featuring functionalities similar to Uber.
