Costa Rica News – While gas stations recommend filling tanks in advance as a precaution ahead of the strike starting on Monday, the Government assures this is not necessary as it has ruled out shortages.
Minae, additionally, confirms the fuel stocks would last three weeks and explains that emergency protocols have been activated to ensure supply to end users. Still, many are heading to refill tanks today, just in case.
This is in response to the call for an indefinite strike by various unions, including the Union of Chemical and Allied Oil Workers of the Costa Rican Petroleum Refinery. The strike is a movement against the tax reform that is being discussed in the Legislative Assembly.
Contingency plans have been activated successfully before, so there is no reason to fear. It’s important to not act crazy and start fighting in lines at overcrowded stations. Remember that Recope has extended the sales schedule over the weekend to avoid chaos. It also plans to hire emergency personnel.
