Costa Rica News – The Antonov An-124 has returned to Costa Rica, this time to aid an airplane that was stranded. It brought a turbine engine for the Iberia aircraft.
This is the third visit of the giant aircraft to the country.
The first time the Antonov came to Costa Rica it brought lighting, wiring, stage and sound equipment for a concert offered by Eros Ramazzotti. The second trip was to transport wastewater treatment plants and tanks to a military base in Afghanistan.
The plane is usually used to transport heavy cargo like locomotives, fuselages and yachts. It can carry up to 150,000 kilos. It’s similar to the US Lockheed C-5 Galaxy.
The Ukrainian-made aircraft is an impressive sight. Many people came to view it. It measures 69 meters in length with a height of 21 meters and a wingspan of 73.3 meters. It’s one of the world’s most bulky and heavy cargo planes.
