Costa Rica Sports – Andrey Amador registered a time of 10:02 in the eight kilometer race in Malaga, during his debut in the Vuelta a España. He was beat in this first stage by just 23 seconds by Rohan Dennis.
His skills and power were as impressive as ever and he did the Movistar Team well. He was the first from his team to cross the finish line. The Tico placed 14th in this stage. So many athletes finished within the 23 seconds between 1st and 14th place.
Nelson Oliveira was 17 seconds behind, taking 4th and one of the favorites, Murcia Alejandro Valverde, was in 16th, 24 seconds behind the winner. These differences are so minimal but every second counts. Valverde took a fall last year and didn’t want that to happen again so he was pretty careful.
Today the tour has the 163.5 kilometers from Marbella to Caminito del Rey for the second stage. The champion of the Tour of Spain will be crowned on September 16th in Madrid.
