23 public institutions provide data on Costa Rican households to be analyzed in an advanced way that shows how many homes are in poverty, extreme poverty, and vulnerability.
It also shows which homes receive State aid in one form or another and which homes have additional needs such as unemployment, single women head of households, students, pregnant, senior citizens, and disabled persons.
This registry is the National Information System and Unique Registry of State Beneficiaries. It is supported by the Inter-American Development Bank, the University of Oxford and the Massachusetts Technological Institute.
It gives insight into 1.6 million homes. There is no information for the other 20.5% of homes yet. It shows that 11.5% are in extreme poverty, 17.7% basic poverty, and 10.9% in vulnerability of poverty without State aid. There are 45,200 families in extreme poverty neglected by aid agencies.
