Costa Rica News – Musicians from all over the region were here in Costa Rica this past weekend, for the meeting of the American Association of Composers and Musical Authors (Alcam).
The national artists participating are hoping for greater exposure and positioning in the Latin American music scene.
At the opening ceremony; it was said that this is the “beginning of great things.” Speakers also advocated regional union, protection of copyright and projection of Latin American composers.
Costa Rican musicians Dionisio Cabal, Humberto Vargas, Manuel Monestel and Tamela Hedström were present at the welcoming ceremony, as were representatives from the local Legislative Assembly.
Rómulo Castro, Álvaro Aguilar and Diego Drexler are among the well known foreign guests who were in attendance. Alcam hopes the event will spur an exchange of ideas and project the value of Latin American music across genres.
We can only hope this helps culture grow in Costa Rica and more appreciation and awareness of the arts.
