Costa Rica News & Events – Adventure racing is perhaps the most exciting team sport in the world. Many countries have teams represent them in this combination of exciting group sports. Each year there is a world championship held! This year’s Adventure Racing World Championships will be held in the Republic of Costa Rica.
This year’s event will be even larger than the last, with 80 teams from around the globe participating. Costa Rica’s been emphasizing adventure tourism credentials recently. This coincides with sustainable initiatives and other tourism efforts.
The national tourist board was responsible for the application to become host country for the event.
They teams will compete November 29th through December 12th for the ultimate adventure prize. The entrance fee is $6,700 per team. The championship competition is a non-stop 140 hours.
The challenges include trekking, kayaking, running, mountain biking, rafting, ropes, coasteering, orienteering, abseiling, and inner tubing. It takes great athleticism to be able to conquer all of these activities.
The Costa Rica Adventure Race- AR World Championship 2013 will cover ground from coast to coast and border to border.
The estimated winning time is 100 hours, though teams will have 216 hours (9 days) to complete the course. The prize money is $75,000 and other sponsor prizes will be given also.
