Costa Rica Mixed Martial Arts – Saturday December 7th – 6 pm – Moravia
Do you remember the 1988 film “Bloodsport?” It’s a classic American martial arts drama that starred Jean-Claude Van Damme. It was one of his first starring roles and it not only showcased his athleticism, but also put martial arts on the radar. The jump spinning, helicopter-like, heel kicks and complete splits were impressive.
Muay Thai kickboxing is a combat sport that uses stand-up strikes and clinching techniques. It requires an immense amount of mental and physical discipline. The art form involves fists, elbows, knees, shins, and feet. It is known as “the art of eight limbs.” Its practitioners have defeated high performing practitioners of other martial arts. The World Muay Thai Council governs the professional level of the sport.
Muay Thai is widely practiced in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). Anderson Silva and Mauricio Rua are particularly fond of moves that come from this martial art. Most MMA artists train in Muay Thai and use its unique punches and clinch fighting technique.
