The National Emergency Commission (CNE) reported an earthquake that was strong and extensive but without material damage.
There was a first tremor of 5.5 degrees followed by one of 4 degrees. The epicenters were in Puntarenas and Tarrazú, respectively. They happened on Monday night at 7:44 and 9:54 and were felt all the way in the northern zone and on the Caribbean coast.
It was “strong and long” in Atenas yet “strong and very short” in downtown Limón. Some reported feeling dizzy from it in Jacó, close to the epicenter.
A survey was carried out nationwide and no material damage, such as falling objects, was reported, according to the National Emergency Commission and the municipal emergency committees of the affected areas.
The National Tsunami Monitoring System ruled out the risk of Tsunami related to these earthquakes.
