Costa Rica News – What are you doing the rest of the summer? For many college students the 4th of July marks the half way point in their summer vacation. In Costa Rica, female students and adults alike can make the second half of their summer one that they will always remember.
The Costa Rican Times is putting together an internship program for females in Costa Rica starting in July of 2014. It is designed to be an educational program with classes and hands on experience in the journalism field as well as encouraging a healthy lifestyle with yoga, surfing mixed with adventures through the beautiful beaches and rain forests of Costa Rica. No one wants to study all the time so the “work hard, play hard” theme has been instilled into the program.
Normally this program is co-ed but this summer’s program has been specially designed for women. The Costa Rican Times has brought on some of the best yoga instructors in the area to give classes 2 times a week for the female program attendees. They have also brought on a surf instructor to give classes a day each week. All of this has been added to an already incredible journalism internship program.
The Costa Rican Times has become one of the most widely read online media sources within the borders of the land of “Pura Vida”. As well as having a large local audience, there is a growing number of foreign readers that make up over 80% of the followers. CRT recently expanded into the online radio world with its partnership with the Overseas Radio Network located in Jaco. In the near future it will be expanding into the video and TV realm as its studio gets completed in the next few weeks. All of these aspects have been combined into this program where the interns will learn about all the aspects of the modern day journalism field including writing and print media, video editing, and radio.

During the week interns will partake in Spanish classes, write and spinning articles for the newspaper, go out and take video and photos to help hone their journalism skills. The program members will also attend various other business classes that will help them realize what it is like to both start their own business both in the USA and in another culture. The program will help you step outside of your comfort zone and find your destination in life.
One of the most important things to learn in life is giving back to both your community and those less fortunate. The Costa Rican Times will be working with the McKee Animal Shelter this summer in order to help the organization in their mission to end the pain and suffering of all companion animals in Latin America. Two days a week the interns will help the animal shelter and will come up with a project to assist the organization in accomplishing its mission.
But it is not all work during the 6 week program. Weekends will be spent truly experiencing the beauty of Costa Rica with both a trip to Manuel Antonio and various tours in the Jaco Hermosa area. You will be able to see why Costa Rica continues to bring tourists and travelers from around the world.
