17,500 marijuana plants have been destroyed, in addition to the 65,283 that were destroyed last July 13. Both operations were carried out in the Southern Zone of Costa Rica. The most recent seizure involved a 10-day operation.
Many authorities were involved, including the Drug Control Police, Border Police, Public Force, and Police Intervention Unit. These combined police forces are working to prevent the drug from reaching Costa Rican homes and families in illegal ways and quantities.
The plants were found across nine fields on Cerro Aguacatal, Cerro Jalisto, Cerro Danta and Pejibaje.
The previous operation also lasted ten days. On that occasion, a man working on one of the plantations was detained and 3.5 kilos of cannabis seeds and 7.1 grams of hashish were seized with the plants.
The legal cultivation, production, distribution, and sale is strictly limited to medical and research purposes and in appropriate quantities for those authorized uses.
