While most students went back to school this Monday, 15 public schools remain closed. This leaves 556 students without classes. These educational centers are 0.3% of the total daytime public schools in Costa Rica. The 556 students are 0.01% of the total student population.
The closures stem from various problems including disagreements of appointments of officials to problems with infrastructure to conflicts and disciplinary issues. 9 closures are due to conflict, 4 due to appointments, 1 due to a disciplinary issue, and 1 due to infrastructure problems.
One school has an issue with parents disagreeing with the appointment of the Director of the institution because of disabilities. In another center, the teacher in charge was relocated by a disciplinary process.
Authorities of the Ministry of Education are working with Regional Directorates to guarantee the continuity of the educational service in all of these centers.
