Costa Rica News – This December, the Public Transport Council will have the process ready for 12,000 concessions for formal taxis to be renewed. 8,000 drivers have to submit additional information before they can get a new 10 year concession.
The current concessions for public taxis were granted back in 2004. Of the 12,000 drivers who applied for another concession, just over 4,000 of them met all of the requirements.
Once the proper documents have been turned in, and if there is no objection by the Council, the drivers will be granted their concessions between now and December. Those who meet the requirements must go in to sign documents in order to formalize the concession.
The Council can handle 420 drivers per day for this purpose.
They have finished the formalization process in Heredia, Cartago and Alajuela and the other provinces will be attended to next week.
96 concessions have been canceled so far due to irregularities.
