Costa Rica Entertainment – The Limón bar held 110 years of history. Following the passing of its owner, it is currently being demolished. This place was held dear to many individuals.
It also was the hangout place of a former president as well as the setting of a famous crime. It was a cultural legacy.
The bar was on Avenida 7 in San Jose, north of the center, near the bus stop to Heredia. It already had the name when it was acquired and the story behind the name remains a mystery.
On the night of August 23, 1938, Beltrán Cortés approached the bar. Two policemen were on the corner but still he shot the most famous doctor in the country, another noted doctor and a Canadian citizen. He was captured in front of a house next to the bar that belonged to former president Otilio Ulate
Ulate frequented the bar twice daily, on his way to work and on his way home from work. It’s believed there was even a secret area so he could occasionally escape journalists and enjoy some time in peace. Ulate was so close to the owner of the bar that he became godfather to two of his daughters.
