Costa Rica Travel – For all those freezing up in the great white north, getting to somewhere warm just got a little easier.
WestJet Airlines announced it add new non-stop flights from Calgary (YYC) to Liberia (LIR), Costa Rica, beginning on December 19.
“Are you ready to visit your gateway to the richest coastlines in Central America? Welcome to Costa Rica, where white-sand beaches, turquoise waters, and impressive, volcano-studded rainforests are in no short supply,” says the blurb on the WestJet website.
The Costa Rica flights are four times weekly – Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays – leaving Calgary at 10:55pm and arriving in Costa Rica at 6:35am.
Cost: a return flight December 20 and 26 is $1,081.27 CAD (US$785US at today’s exchange rate).
The flights give western Canadians more options to visit the country, eliminating a connection into Toronto or U.S. cities. Canada is Costa Rica’s the second source of tourists by air.
The Calgary flights are in addition to the airline’s seasonal service to and from Toronto (YYZ) and San Jose, (SJO) between Dec 15, 2015 and Apr 26, 2016.
On Saturday, WestJet has begun flights between Calgary and Huatulco, Mexico.
With these new services, WestJet will operate 109 daily departures to 47 destinations from Calgary International Airport this winter, an increase of 12 and 17 per cent respectively over last winter. The airline now offers non-stop service from Calgary to 26 Canadian, 10 U.S. and 11 international destinations.
