In the wake of the disappearance of nine-month-old Keibril Amira García Amador on April 9th, the Public Prosecutor’s Office initially claimed they were unaware of an adult’s involvement in the assault of the 13-year-old mother until the child’s abduction a week ago. However, a complaint from the Ministry of Public Education (MEP) exposed that the prosecuting authority had knowledge of the suspicion since April 2022.
On Tuesday, Attorney General Carlo Díaz Sánchez issued a press release acknowledging the incorrect information. Upon further verification, it was confirmed that the complaint filed by the MEP did, in fact, refer to the stepfather, a 33-year-old man with the last name Casasola Salas. The statement reads, “Having verified this regrettable oversight, immediate corrective measures have been taken, which are mandatory for all prosecutorial staff, to ensure strict compliance with all protocols for addressing and assisting victims of sexual crimes, in order to protect the integrity of these individuals.”
Sánchez further stated, “I have ordered the Fiscal Inspection to investigate the actions of the Public Prosecutor’s representatives in each of the cases and to determine if there was any negligence in handling this matter, warranting the application of disciplinary action.”
The Attorney General’s admission of oversight in the case emphasizes the importance of diligence in handling sensitive cases involving young victims. It also highlights the need for strict adherence to established protocols to ensure the integrity and well-being of victims of sexual crimes.
