A plane wreck happened as the aircraft was on its way to Costa Rica. The accident happened on October 21, over Costa Rican Caribbean waters. Authorities from Panama and Costa Rica have coordinated search efforts but, after days, not nearly enough has been found.
The director of Civil Aviation confirmed that there was never any “Mayday” alert. There were no anomalies detected on the radar either. When the plane failed to arrive, alerts were triggered and established protocols activated immediately.
Experts do not yet have theories as to what happened. A report shows that the weather was clear within a radius of 10 kilometers around the airport. The aircraft disappeared 40 kilometers north of the airport. It’s believed to have fallen abruptly and been destroyed into multiple parts.
Two bodies were found on Saturday. Their identities are being determined by authorities of the Judicial Investigation Organization, Public Ministry, and International Police. Some parts of the plane and some passengers’ belongings were found too, but the fuselage has not been found and is important to figuring out what happened.
The Civil Aviation Organization, of the United Nations, alerted Germany, Switzerland, Canada, and Italy of the accident because most of the passengers were German, the pilot was Swiss, the plane was manufactured in Italy, and the engines were made in Canada. They will all provide personnel to help with the investigation.
