For over a month, the Institute of Aqueducts and Sewers (AyA) and the San Jose City Council have been arguing over whose responsibility it is to repair a huge crater in a park in Rohrmoser. The hole is considerable in size, five meters wide and over two meters deep.
Neighbors worry that no one is doing anything to fix it and it’s in a high transit area. Many people walk their dogs in that park and dogs and cats go free there too. Tons of people pass by on their way to important buildings, like a hospital and an embassy, as well as cafes and apartments. It’s an accident waiting to happen. Neighbors also complain of bad odors coming from the crater. They wonder why it has been left there for about three months. All the authorities did was put up yellow caution tape around it and then orange mesh.
The AyA is in charge of wastewater pipe failures but this situation is from poor rainwater management, which is supposed to be handled by the Municipality, which has agreed to send a crew next week to begin the repair.
