Many countries require visitors to have proof of vaccination against covid-19 before allowing them to enter. A vaccination card from Costa Rica is not sufficient proof. The Ministry of Health can offer the required certificate but it must then be apostilled.
The apostille process was long and tiresome. Costa Ricans from all over the national territory had to travel to San Jose to have their certificate apostilled at the Foreign Affairs office.
This is no longer needed, because the paperwork can be processed by any of the 110 branches of Correos de Costa Rica. You just bring the certificate to the post office and they will send it to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the apostille and legalization process. It will then be transferred back to the branch.
The person pays for the stamps and approximately ₡5,000 to ₡8,000, depending on the weight of the document and the distance it must be sent. Still, this represents a huge savings over having to travel in person. The apostilled document will be back to the client within 8 business days.
