This Sunday there will be a traditional Summer Masquerade in the streets of Santo Domingo de Heredia. The cimarrona called La Original Domingueña, founded in 2004, will perform music that is part of a passionate legacy of their families.
This week the group, that always ventures a little bit outside the traditional, premiered a new song “Herencia,”an original piece. It is accompanied by a music video recorded at the La Centenaria farm, one of the oldest adobe houses in Santo Domingo.
The well admired group points out that cimarronas have always adapted rhythms but their group wanted to do something original although that’s not usual among cimarronas.
The new song is influenced by the brass sounds found in New Orleans. It also mixes in jazz and improvisation. You can hear the song on social networks by searching “La Original.”
