Costa Rica’s National Center of Conventions and Conferences has raised its sales target for the year to $6.4 million. There are already six international appointments set that will bring in $1.8 million. There will also be many local events.
The goal, if met, would almost double last year’s results, $3.3 million. The center opened in April 2018. The figure of $6.4 million was chosen in order to achieve operational balance for the center.
The center had an initial investment of $35 million from the ICT’s funds. It is meant to enhance the country’s role in the convention tourism industry, one that is big in Mexico, Panama and Colombia.
While convention centers in most countries look very similar to one another, the one in Costa Rica stands apart. It has unique architecture, art and gardens. It is under the banner of sustainable and green events. It uses best practices in water treatment and waste separation.
