Costa Rica News – The Government will officially be on vacation as of the end of the day on Friday, December 21st and won’t return to work until January 7, 2019. This was stated by the Governing Council on Tuesday.
Most public servants are therefore granted vacation days on December 24, 26, 27, 28, and 31 as well as January 2, 3, and 4. Many government institutions will be completely closed during this time.
This provision applies to Central Government institutions, bodies attached to the ministries, autonomous institutions, semiautonomous and public enterprises of the state. This will lead to significant savings in electricity, telecommunications, water and fuel.
Some others follow a different procedure. For instance, the vacations of police bodies are defined by the responsible hierarch. The Ministry of Public Education, the Attorney General’s Office, the National Registry and emergency care services also define their vacations differently. Some, because of the nature of their functions, must remain open.
