San Jose, Nov 6 (Prensa Latina) The Institute on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (IAFA) will open four new centers to treat drug users in Costa Rica, where the consumption and sale of narcotics is one of the main current problems.
The general director of the IAFA, Javier Vindas, pointed out that his entity -scribed to the Ministry of Health- works independently and promotes through different programs the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of addiction to alcohol, tobacco and other drugs. .
Quoted by the digital newsletter crhoy.com, Vindas said that with the new Centers for Comprehensive Care in Drugs (CAID) in Pavas, Perez Zeledon, Heredia and Liberia, there are 12 that work throughout the country, since before they were inaugurated eight in San Ramon, Puntarenas, Quepos, Santa Cruz Guanacaste, Cartago, Limon, San Vito de Coto Brus and San Carlos.
He explained that the 12 CAIDs are located in areas of greater risk of drug use, so it seeks to offer outpatient treatment to consumers and their families with comprehensive professional assessment involving doctors, social workers, counselors, nurses in health and promoters social.
Vindas pointed out that these centers have been operating since 2007, with attention without prior requirement to be insured or any cost, all to provide a better quality of life.
He argued that this is the first level of attention, and can be referred to other institutions such as the Costa Rican Social Security Fund that has the Interdisciplinary Team on Mental Health, for cases in which there are dual pathologies with depression or bipolarity.
The director general of the IAFA noted that the CAIDs serve more than 7,000 people per year, with nearly 30,000 consultations.
