Costa Rica News – The National Commission of Emergencies will soon define a budget for preventive measures in areas of greatest risk of damage from the El Niño Phenomenon, which the National Meteorological Institute is carefully monitoring to predict possible affectation for Costa Rica.
It is expected that the arrival of the phenomenon could bring about a drought in the Pacific and more rain in the Caribbean. Research centers show that from August to October there is a greater probability of the phenomenon occurring in the Ecuadorian Pacific area and then from November to January the probability gets even greater and by April the temperature of the Pacific will be increase above normal.
The increase in temperature will also be felt in most of Costa Rica. There may be a longer dry season as well.
One of the regions at greatest risk is the Caribbean which is already having so much trouble with flooding. The CNE is working to be prepared to help face possible floods from the phenomenon.
They also must prepare to help against the loss of crops and death of animals from drought on the other side of the country.
