Costa Rica News – A turtle received medical attention after suffering what seems like a shark attack. A conservationist group found the wounded animal caught in a fishing net near Cocos Island.
He was first aided by the conservationists aboard the Sharkwater boat.
He was brought to shore and park rangers put out a call and veterinarians and paramedic officials of the Fire Department of Cocos Island came to the rescue giving the Kemp’s ridley much needed medical assistance.
He showed signs of chronic weakness and injuries possibly attributed to a shark attack. He was treated with medicines to improve his state of health, stabilized, and released into the sea about 5 miles from the island.
The species is in danger of extinction and often falls victim to fishing devices and sharks. Due to the great work of those serving Cocos Island, this turtle’s story has a better ending than most.
