Costa Rica News – Last year, 600 children born and registered in Spain were named Keylor, a name increasing drastically in popularity in honor of the tico goalkeeper Keylor Navas who plays in Real Madrid.
The name had not previously been a popular one in the European country so the figure of 600 is quite impressive, although not such a big deal considering there are 45 million inhabitants there.
Costa Rican newborns are also frequently being named Keylor since the World Cup in Brazil 2014. It’s still going strong, with many new Keylors joining the world this March.
The name of the Tico sensation is being used most frequently in compound names.
There have been 391 Keylors born in Costa Rica since 2014. There are also 56 with the alternative spelling Keilor. Just one had the luck to be named Keylor Navas, Keylor Josué Navas.
