Costa Rica News – ICE is calling for a 19% increase in electricity because of the combination of debt and a drop in energy sales.
The Costa Rican Electricity Institute’s request is for the general electricity tariff for 2018.
The company is witnessing its debt payment grow, mostly in dollars, at the same time that energy sales are on the decline. Therefore, the request was submitted to the Public Services Regulatory Authority (Aresep) under file ET-064.
In 2016, ICE had requested a 9.75% increase. With the increase requested this year, the company expects a generated income of ¢62,704 million to meet operating expenses and face financial obligations.
For an ICE client family currently paying ¢9,400 for consuming 120 kWh per month, its monthly receipt would be raised to ¢10,600.
The proposed minimum consumption payment for up to 40 kWh is ¢3,500 instead of ¢3,100.
