There are records of 500 pre-Columbian sites, including organic remains like bones and seeds, pottery, stone, gold and jade.
Ceramic and stone pieces were recently excavated, classified and preserved by the students and professors at the University of Costa Rica. From the smallest finds, like a charred seed or a strand of a textile, they can reconstruct how our ancestors lived.
The lab preserves over 1,000 samples as a way to know the society that lived here first.
Working with these material objects allows us to get closer to them. The collection started in 1942.
The lab is located on the third floor of the Faculty of Social Sciences at UCR and is closed to the public, however, occasional exhibits allow students to appreciate what is there.
