Costa Rica News – To entice new members, Costco in the U.S. is offering a freebie in a US$75 Costco cash card toward Costco travel to the Caribbean, Costa Rica, Europe, Hawaii, Mexico or the South Pacific (cruises excluded).
That and three other freebies await those who pay US$60 for a Gold Star membership (the regular price).
The Star Tribune reports the other three freebies are, Freebie #1: A $20 Costco cash card; Freebie #2: Three coupons worth about $36, including free Kirkland Signature paper towels ($15 value), free VitaRain Zero Flavored Water ($10 value)and a free Food Court whole pizza ($10 value); And, Freebie #3: $25 off an order of $250 or more on Costco.com.
The offer is good only for new members. Prior members had to have canceled before April 1, 2017 or are not eligible. More fine print: You must redeem your voucher for the membership prior to Nov. 1. If the voucher is not redeemed, you receive the amount paid for the voucher. Most of the freebie vouchers expire Jan. 31, 2018, The travel cash card expires Dec. 31, 2017 although travel does not have to be completed by then. Coupons are mailed 4-6 weeks after validation in the store.
Although Costco stores in the U.S. and Canada are similar to the Pricesmart stores in Costa Rica, and that both big-box stores carry Kirkland products, they are not the same and memberships are not interchangeable.
And while this is Costco’s second membership deal in that last few years (the last was in 2014), Pricesmart in Costa Rica has never offered any deal to sign up new members.
In Costa Rica Pricesmart has seven locations and soon to open in Rio Oro, Santa Ana, in October. Membership is US$35 annual for Diamond Member and US$30 for Business Member and good at all Pricesmart stores in Central America, Colombia, and the Caribbean.
