Costa Rica News – Visits to the Poas volcano are now restricted indefinitely.
This is due to the colossus’ constant activity in recent days, according to a report by the National System of Conservation Areas (Sinac).
The institution explains that the doors to the site will reopen as soon as the conditions to receive visitors return to “stable and secure.” As of now, the volcanic activity is unpredictable and increasing, it seems.
Sinac says that the facilities are full of sediment, ash and other volcanic materials. The water conditions are unknown. The degassing of the volcano is very high. A 30 meter wall in the crater lake collapsed.
The increase of activity last Wednesday led to a broken water table in the dome so the park was closed Thursday.
On Friday, damage was reported on the lookout and concrete floor of the site and the trails. Rocks were being thrown during eruptive events.
