Costa Rica News – Animal lovers, pay attention. You can help Nicoa back to his natural habitat. Nicoa is a four month old male ocelot. He is an orphan. He is currently at the Las Pumas rescue center in Guanacaste.
The plan is to get him back into the forest but first he needs to be able to survive on his own, which includes a surgery on his eyes which are affected by cataracts. This procedure costs $2,500. $1,200 has been donated by the center and the clinic but $1,300 is still needed.
The specialists will evaluate his retina to see how it is functioning and processing images. It is necessary to remove the cataracts so that the ocelot can see well, focus, hunt and protect himself.
After recovering successfully, Nicoa will enter a rehabilitation program and be released early next year. This phase is going to be done with officials from the Tempisque Conservation Area which rescued the ocelot from a farm.
