World News – Ever wanted a dinosaur skeleton for your oversized living room? Here’s your chance — but it won’t come cheap. A rare skeleton of a dinosaur that lived during the late Jurassic period will be auctioned off in Britain in November, and officials expect it to fetch several hundred thousand dollars.
The almost complete skeleton of the juvenile Allosaurus is about 9 feet long. It was found in a quarry in Wyoming in 2009.
It’s the first skeleton of a predatory dinosaur to go on sale in Britain, according to Summers Place Auctions, which is running the Nov. 25 event. The auction house expects this Allosaurus specimen, currently owned by a paleontologist, to fetch $460,000 to $770,000.
“We are pleased to be offering this skeleton to our global customers, and expect a lot of European and Asian interest in this,” Rupert van der Werff, director at Summers Place Auctions, said in a statement. “The Allosaurus, together with the T-Rex, has become the quintessentially large, carnivorous dinosaur in western popular culture.
Given the size of this Allosaurus it also adds the cute factor and it may not just attract interest from museums, but could also be the wow factor in luxurious living room.”
