Costa Rica News – Spending time with John C. Mather, who won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2006, was something Mariana Quesada, a 19 year old Costa Rican never expected to do.
She will be able to speak to many scientists during her two week internship at NASA.
Mariana won the National Science and Technology Fair and also lectured at the TEDx Pura Vida 2014.
She is featured in the film Big Dream which encourages young women and girls to opt for careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
Mariana studied at the “Latin American University of Science and Technology, the school that will sponsor her airfare for this trip.
Mariana deserved to win this scholarship and internship because she is humble, intelligent and tenacious.
The permission for a Costa Rican engineer to do this internship was anything but easy, so Mariana is now working with NASA’s International Department to try to add Costa Rica to the list of internships offered to foreigners.
