Costa Rica News – If someone tells me there is a possibility of a volcano erupting, I guess I am one to play it safe and do not visit that place during the warning.
Turrialba has become qualified as very dangerous. This is due to alarming pulses of activity.
The action means we must be aware 24 hours a day because eruptions cannot be predicted.
At the end of last October the volcano had the strongest eruption it’s had in the past 148 years. On this occasion the ash residue reached all the way to Puriscal, which is 63 miles away.
Another aspect of volcanic risk is that rocks can shoot up with the ash and come down like bullets.
Turrialba is clearly an active volcano and intense eruptions cannot be ruled out as a possibility.
It was inactive until 1996. In both 2000 and 2007 action became more evident. Rapid changes started occurring. In 2010 and 2012 there were strong ash eruptions. There are now persistent gas emissions which have affected nearby buildings and farms.
It’s best to listen to the warnings and avoid visiting this volcano.
