Technology News – All of those looking to get the newest Apple products time for them to open their pocketbooks again. Apple launched two new tablets on Thursday: the iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3.
Like the newer models of the iPhone, the new iPads will feature Apple’s Touch ID sensor, which lets users unlock their devices with their fingerprints.
The first iPad Air was advertised as being thinner than a pencil. The iPad Air 2 is even skinnier: only 6.1 millimeters, which is 18 percent thinner than the previous model. Its 9.7-inch Retina screen also features new anti-reflective coating that Apple claims makes it 56 percent less reflective.
Like the iPhone 6, the iPad Air 2 can take pictures in burst mode and slow-motion HD video. Apple is also releasing a new model from its smaller iPad line with the 7.9-inch iPad mini 3.
Both will be available for pre-order on Friday in silver, space gray and gold. The 16GB Wi-Fi version of the iPad Air 2 starts at $499 while the same version of the iPad mini 3 starts at $399.
The cellular version of the iPad Air 2 (starting at $629) will include a SIM card that will let customers easily switch between AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile without having to swap the card out.
Both the iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3 will feature Apple Pay, which goes live Monday, for making online purchases.
