One of the most beautiful places to travel in Costa Rica is Lake Arenal for both the lake and the volcano.
A freshwater lake, Lake Arenal is located in both the provinces of Alajuela and Guanacaste. The lake is 30 km long and has a top width of 5 km. The lake ranges from 30-60 meters in depth depending on what time of year you are measuring.
The lake boasts biodiversity of over 2000 plant species, 120 mammals and more than 300 birds. The most famous birds around the lake are hummingbirds, toucans, and woodpeckers. The lake has two main types of fish the machacha and the world famous rainbow bass.
